Parkland
City Backyard
The owners of this backyard were looking for a multi-functional and versatile outdoor space that could transition seamlessly throughout the seasons, while meeting the diverse needs of the entire family. The program included a lap pool, cabana for relaxing and entertaining, grass area for kids to play, dining & bbq area, and privacy plantings.
With the back of the house looking onto the backyard, creating a seamless inside out feeling was important. Glass fencing, birch trees, and ornamental grasses define and separate the space, while maintaining transparency and openness. The shaded cabana offers views to the pool and gardens, while feeling private and secluded. Natural materials are repeated throughout the design - IPE, limestone, glass, steel, creating a sense of calm and cohesion. Low-maintenance grasses, combined with massing of English lilac and French lavender create a dynamic outdoor space, an oasis for enjoyment and relaxation throughout the year.
