Forest Hill Terrace

Condominium Courtyard

This perfectly preserved 1970s terrace had all of the ingredients to become an urban escape on par with a classic Manhattan rooftop. The two-tiered space is enclosed by an original brick railing and warmed by west-facing sun that allows for a diversity of potted plants. Containers of mature Japanese cutleaf maples and Chinese redbud trees, evergreen yew and boxwood hedges, and wispy grasses are strategically grouped to create lush, textured vistas. “More is more” was the guiding principle, but the tonal green on green palette is soothing and simple. True to the building’s era, the furniture is low-slung and loungy rather than formal. Visible through full-height glass windows, the terrace is now a natural extension of the apartment’s richly layered interior, where there’s something interesting to see from every angle.
