City Front Yard

The design for this front yard focused on two priorities: privacy from the high street traffic, and low-maintenance plantings that would look good all year. We created a charming, modern inner city courtyard of informal, natural plantings - mostly grasses and ferns in shades of green, with alliums and anemones for seasonal colour. A retaining wall of powder-coated steel with beech hedging quietly defines the space between public and private. A generous algonquin stone walkway is flanked by plantings of white spire birch and serviceberry trees, captivating in all seasons. The small pea gravel area provides an intimate seating area, a ‘secret garden’ in the middle of it all.
